Happy Mothers Day

As we close out Mothers day this year, I’d like to take a moment and say happy mothers day to my mom, to my kids mother and my x-wife, whether it is hard times or not, every mother should get a pat on the back.

Woke up today to getting my son ready for his moms and then packed the truck for SUP time.  I hit upper lake clementine, it was LOCKED, assuming it was the rain that hammered out the road, so I went on to lowers.   The road down to lowers was busy with walkers, bike riders and general pop, however the lake was clear of people.  It was a bit cold, but who cares, I took to the water and put in a good 45 mins of paddling.  It was a great session and then I decided to surprise my mom in “pville”, however after getting over there they were already out shopping so it was a miss.  It’s the thought that counts!

So what’s on tap next?   Get the back pack ready for a hiking session and sleep over.  I have most of the gear in the bag, however not organized and weighed out.  Beyond that.. who knows where the next journey will take me..

Relax already.

One lesson hit home pretty hard today.   I constantly tell folks “this too shall pass” and to focus on the present.   Well after carrying all of last weeks stress and bundling more from the weekend, it hit me like a ton of bricks while on the phone with my council.

I realized that I’m not even close to relaxed and I own that.  I have committed to myself to let go of what I can’t change and to focus forward.     Today was a stress wake up call.   Now I need to let it go and get back on the journey.

So.  Relax already.    Right.

SD Card FULL

Today, after dropping my son at the airport I hit auburn, “uppers” to get in the water.  I loaded all my gear, specifically I wanted to get a good gopro shot of today w/ the water flowing today.  I got all the gear rigged up for the paddle and after getting all the way in the water I turned on the gopro (yes it was charged), yes I grabbed a micro SD card, but yet when I turned it on..  it said.. “SD Card FULL”. .  UGH..  I was so bummed that I could not even take any pictures, videos or anything.    And especially since I passed a water snake in uppers it would have been a great picture.

So.. what’s the point of this?   remember to check your SD cards..

1.5 hours of paddling was amazing.  very good to have music playing and just dig in.. paddle harder, go faster..

Motivation Monday – Index Cards, Collecting Skills and Managing Stress

Yo.. Dude!  you started this blog with a huge title, are you sure you can shore up on all of it in one blog?   Well.   Here I go to knock this out.

All the journaling this weekend paid off well with a game plan for the week, the day, the master to-do list.  I extrapolated feedback from my coaching sessions to utilize INDEX CARDS to capture main themes that I want to embrace, key ideas for the team and how to keep my “drive” in place for the team.   Are these company ideas or just plain industry team sayings, expressions and thoughts of success (it’s the later).    It works great to flip through them all and then reflect real time what I need to do.

Now let’s shift to collecting skills.  I am a firm believer in being a life long learner, even though I didn’t know that expression until just recently, but it rings so true in everything I do.  I continue to drive to learn new things, apply them and see how it fits into my life.   I set out with a plan to create an adventure list, with of course a matrix of when/how to do them.  I am on that path now and I can’t wait to share some of these adventures with everybody.   Top of the list for me is 1) how to throw an ax (tomahawk style)  2) back pack camping 3) Yoga SUP .  this is just a few of the things on my list.   Let’s go adventure.!

Managing stress?  – What the heck brah!  Stress comes at you from all angles and learning how to manage them is important. In my recent reading I have really gravitated to the following.   When you are in the thicket of stress, it is time to stop, breathe and then say to yourself.   “I am really stressed out, this moment will pass.. ”   this is a good reminder for me to stop thinking beyond the reality of that moment.  To realize that stress does pass, the feelings do subside, it’s about just realizing that in the moment so you can move forward.   This weekend was one of those times that i had a prime example of being really stressed out and I was so proud of myself to pause the moment, breathe and then show how much I care for another human that was up in my grill.  I kept focused, I opened my heart and changed the entire situation around.   I was tired, wiped out, but I didn’t let any of that stop me from being a great person, great father, amazing coach and a complete fanatic at having fun.

Okay.. so as you approach this Monday I challenge you to think outside the box, embrace another close to you, keep your heart open.   Bad stuff happens to good people, because good people have their hearts & minds open, stuff happens, but I would say that living with an open heart & mind is better than opposite. (Insert your own words here).

Journaling day.

As I kick off this rainy and gray day it’s time to think about the week and all that is possible.  It’s energizing to think that at the turn of a day it is all anew again.  You can change your day with just breathing and believing.

What I’m looking forward to is creating my day by day journal and to do list.  I’m practicing doodling.  Yah I said that.  It’s a tactic to creativity, to learn and help reflect.

More to share this afternoon.  Until then get outside.

Single, Taken ? NOPE..

Happy Saturday all!   What a rainy day, no baseball for the team, however it is a great day to reflect on what we do have.

I remember a friend sending me this image above awhile back and absolutely liked it.   It is all about these things for me right now.   What is my favorite?    So hard to chose which one, however I would have to say “Being Passionate”.   For without passion, life is so different.

Enjoy your day and remember – go make memories!!!

How am I kicking the toxins out?  SUP.   Yup. Water.  Chill.  No drama.  Just being one.

If I could turn back time.. to the good old days..

YoungManHilly

Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,

When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out. – 21 pilots

Today, is now.  I am here.  I am home!   Thank you to a life long friend (HS) for this great photo years back.   This is exactly how I feel today.  Embracing the now!   I woke up this morning, cleaned the casa, dishes, laundry, vacuum, counters, etc.   It was a great morning and then off to the lake to catch some water.  Folsom lake was busy, crowded, lame.. so after two guard shack entrances I moved onto to Negro Bar, Folsom. It was awesome..   paddled up to rainbow bridge and then back to the dock.  Peaceful – yes, relaxing – yes. cardio – yes.   🙂

Now let’s talk a little bit about organization..  today I took another shift forward in organization.  I had two areas that really made me irritated.   Socks & DVDs..  so I battled both.    Organized all my socks by work, sports, shorties, long & winter.   DVD’s all sorted by title letter and just mixed up kids vs. adult.  so much easier.  what else?  I purged all the titles that are just crap, that I don’t like, won’t watch, didn’t go away w/ a prior.. (etc..)   lol.

socks

Yes I have pictures of the DVD’s before & after, but i’m holding that for a future blog.. (yah never know).

so.. what’ s on tap for this week?  back to the 30 day.  Gym accountability for April with my team and then also focus on financial freedom.

So back to the water topic.. I was able to pick up a poppy pass, if you want to SUP or swim – give me a shout out..

Day 19 – HIT the wall last night.

It’s all about accountability, and I’m owning up to this on my blog.  I fell off the 30 day plan last night.   I know I was rocking it so good for 18 days.   🙂   so why?    Well I decided to take a deep breathe, prepare for today (friday – april fools day) and what is ahead this morning.  Let’s not talk about that quite yet, I’ll wait til I get out of that ordeal.  but for now..  I leave you with this thought..  I wonder if the song writer was thinking about HOPS when he wrote this song…

Hooked on a Feeling

I can’t stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don’t realize
What you do to me
When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything’s alright

Day 17 – time is flying by.. SLASH. the weather is amazing. SLASH. 30 day challenge

Recently I read through a post about 30 day challenges.  http://www.bohoberry.com/build-good-habits/  I’d like to give full props to this blogger, her references and what she does.    Check it out..

This is an Abstract from her blog, that is from a book “The Miracle Morning”, Yes I ordered it and it arrived today, however they didn’t deliver it to the right home.. (yah. it happens).   I’m day 17..  the uncomfortable phase.  but in 3 days I will be unstoppable.

HILLY

In The Miracle Morning, Hal explains that there are 3 phases to creating new habits.

[Days 1-10] Phase One: Unbearable

“The fist 10 days of implementing any new habit, or ridding yourself of any old habit, can feel almost unbearable.”

The key here is to push past the first 10 days. Would you be willing to deal with just 10 days of seeming agony in order to develop a habit that will change your life forever? I know I am!

[Days 11-20] Phase Two: Uncomfortable

“After you get through the first 10 days — the most difficult 10 days — you begin the 2nd 10-day phase, which is considerably easier. You will be getting used to your new habit.”

During phase two, you are really starting to hit our stride. Things get a little easier but still require discipline and commitment. But don’t worry! You’re almost there!

[Days 21-30] Phase Three: Unstoppable

“Phase Three is where the actual transformation occurs, as your new habit becomes part of your identity. It transcends the space between something you’re trying and who you’re becoming. You start to see yourself as someone who lives the habit.”

Phase three is the goal, but it still requires commitment. It can be too easy to drop off after the second phase thinking that you’ve already made it. Phase three is where this habit cements in as a part of you though, and should not be ignored.

NOTE:  read the blog.. it’s worth it..   http://www.bohoberry.com/build-good-habits/
